Confrontational, ugly, desperate, art-damaged and criminally unknown outside Buffalo, NY (though the band has toured the Midwest and points East since its inception in the Summer of 2007) are all claims made against this noisy four piece. Formed out of the ashes of the Trailer Park Tornados, PLATES chose a nondescript moniker, because they felt the name would match the music. Cerebral, yet pounding minimal fuzzed-out numbers would become their staples, yet occasional hardcore pounders made their way into the fray as well. With the addition of bass player Biff (Eric Bifaro), the fuzz was coming from all amplification while rookie front man Teodor Lazar (though never in a band or near a microphone before) became the most respected and feared frontman in town after a mere few shows. Three 7” singles (two released in 2011) are either sold out or at the final copies stage—all with minimal promotion. Buffalo’s Feral Kid Records did one & two while Lemuria drummer Alex Kearns’ fabled Art of the Underground did #three.
One blogger wrote: “Plates sound beaten down and bitter about life, but instead of writing boring downer noise jams, they deliver songs filled with anger and a punk lining. I love this band and am looking forward to their planned 12” on Big Neck.” Well lucky for you….it’s here now, and it’s great!
