Moby performed his track “The Poison Tree” on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night. The song is featured on “Music That Changes the World” from the David Lynch Foundation. Liked what you heard from Moby on the Music That Changes The World box set from the David Lynch Foundation? Well, there’s more where that came from. Moby will be performing his exclusive track Poison Tree on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, this Thursday, April 26. And, if you didn’t get your copy of the box set because they sold out on Record Store Day, you can try your local record store again — along with other retailers — after the Leno performance, as we have shipped more of these beautiful, very cool box sets out!
In addition, Moby has a new album coming out on April 30th called Destroyed: Remixed which will be available through his official online store. The talented electro-musician’s new release features a selection of previously released remixes and exclusive material, plus Moby’s brand new 30-minute-long ambient track called “All Sides Gone.”
The Destroyed: Remixed album features collaborated remixes from an array of prominent artists including, Yeasayer, Holy Ghost!, Paul van Dyk, Photek and, our favorite artist — David Lynch.
Moby was sure to return the favor this past Saturday, Record Store Day, when he posted, “David Lynch and I have swapped remixes. In other words: he did a remix for me and I did a remix for him”. Sure enough, Moby remixed the David Lynch track Noah’s Ark and what a treat!
The David Lynch Foundation announced plans today to release the physical version of DOWNLOAD FOR GOOD: MUSIC THAT CHANGES THE WORLD as a SPECIAL LIMITED EDITION BOX SET to celebrate Record Store Day, Saturday April 21, 2012. You can check out the official press release here.
MUSIC THAT CHANGES THE WORLD is a deluxe, four-volume vinyl collection featuring 34 exclusive tracks by world-renowned artists such as Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Donovan, Iggy Pop, Peter Gabriel, Moby, Maroon 5, Ozomatli and others.
Originally released in mid-July 2011 via iTunes as DOWNLOAD FOR GOOD, the MUSIC THAT CHANGES THE WORLD, SPECIAL LIMITED EDITION BOX SET is a wonderfully eclectic, star-studded vinyl music compilation benefitting the David Lynch Foundation—a non-profit educational organization founded by iconic filmmaker David Lynch. The compilation has been re-mastered for vinyl, and includes a previously unreleased bonus track from Sean Lennon’s “Ghost of the Saber Tooth Tiger,” as well as an exclusive new release from Julio Iglesias Jr. via digital download.
“It is my great pleasure to announce the vinyl release of MUSIC THAT CHANGES THE WORLD on Record Store Day,” said Donovan. “As head of the Musical Wing of The David Lynch Foundation, I wish to thank all the amazing artists who have contributed. From the beginning, when The Beatles and I were writing songs to promote Maharishi’s meditation, it was always my dream to bring all the musical fraternity onto one great label to Promote True Peace. This day has arrived and now the world can know as we knew then, that Change Begins Within.”
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees were announced yesterday, and lots of great performers will be recognized for their contribution to the world of music next April in Cleveland, OH. Among honorees are the Beastie Boys, Guns N’ Roses, Laura Nyro, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Donovan and The Small Faces/The Faces; there’s a lot of variety in the 2012 group.
Here at Altavoz, we are especially proud that Donovan will become part of this fabled club. In the same month next year, his song “Listen” will be part of a four-record vinyl compilation release in support of the David Lynch Foundation.
The song as described on the David Lynch Foundation Music website goes like this, “If the archetype of the aphorism could be cooed into revealing its shape, to be used as the illuminated polygon for a zero gravity cross-dimensional partner dance with your inner child, “Listen” would be at the top of the list of potential candidates. It’s a fox-trot to dreamscape jazz, that moves like a brass pendulum carving mandalas on an extraterrestrial white sand beach, while outside your apartment a light rain makes the lawn smell incredible. That classic Donovan lullaby-mystique will haunt you, waking or dreaming, this life or the next.”
Ok, so I have no idea what any of that means, but it actually is true! When you listen to “Listen”, you are taken on a mystical journey, could be back in time or even into the future….depending on your mood at that moment, the journey will be meaningful and unique.
There’s something about the classical guitar when it’s fused with Cuban influences, flamenco and rock. Rodrigo y Gabriela give an acoustic rendering that is as exotic as it is familiar. It seeps deep into your bones and lingers, it moves you in ways you didn’t realize you could. NPR describes the Dublin-based, Mexico born duo as “nimble-fingered” and they do not disappoint. Since their 2006 debut, they have proved themselves to be practitioners of everything from rhythmic funk and adventurous jazz to complex Spanish, South American and Middle Eastern traditions, executed with original flair and virtuosic precision.
Rodrigo y Gabriela have donated their song, Satori, to the David Lynch Foundation. Satori can be heard on iTunes on the Download for Good album and in the Spring of 2012, the song will be made available as part of a compilation deluxe box set sold at retail venues throughout the US and abroad. Altavoz is packaging and distributing the box set; proceeds from the iTunes and box set sales go to support the David Lynch Foundation.
You like electronic music? Then you know Carmen Rizzo (or you should), the two-time GRAMMY Nominee Producer-Remixer & Recording Artist. His music takes you on a special journey. Carmen has donated a song to the David Lynch Foundation for Download for Good. The song — Bring the Mountain Down — with Grant-Lee Phillips, is beautiful.
But don’t take my word for it — here’s what the David Lynch Foundation Music has to say: If your life were in montage format, this song would play when you are drinking lemonade after mowing the lawn of your childhood. It is an igloo in the desert, a bonfire on the north pole, a temple made of driftwood in a lucid dream. With sweeping sonic baths of light, sparks, and digital snow, one has the sense that gravity just might be optional. If you’ve ever wanted to run in slow motion at the airport or jump naked off of a waterfall, “Bring the Mountain Down” should be a serious consideration.
I love this track, it gets into your head and stays there — in a good way. Listen to the song, get it off iTunes (Download for Good) and next Spring buy the deluxe box set from your local retailer; in it you’ll find this song plus more than 30 others from musician luminaries such as Ben Folds, Maroon 5 and Peter Gabriel, all remastered for vinyl.
Proceeds from the iTunes download and box set purchase go to support the David Lynch Foundation. Click below to check out the music video.
I love Ozomatli. The eclectic band has an original sound that spans Latin, Hip Hop and Salsa with a crossover adult contemporary appeal that attracts fans of all ages and nationalities. Ozomatli’s sound is smooth and melodic, an easy listening feel that plays well in any situation or environment.
What makes me like Ozomatli even more is their work for charity and support of social causes all over the world. Most recently, the group performed for young kids at a school in Los Angeles. It is clear from online posts and pictures that Ozomatli truly enjoyed performing, almost as much as the audience enjoyed them!
Ozomatli’s unique style is now being heard by even more fans…their single “Monster” (which is available for download on iTunes on the Download for Good compilation album) has clocked in at number 10 on the Adult Contemporary Top 200 Chart. Even more impressive, I’ve heard that Ozomatli may get a Grammy nomination for Record of the Year! Maybe they’ll be able to add another Grammy to their previous three Grammy wins!
For a group that values their fans and their community so highly, it is truly rewarding to see their success. Check out Ozomatli on their Facebook page.

2011: Bjork releases Biophilia with an "app box" of ten iPad/iPhone applications, one for each of the album's songs. An "Ultimate Edition" physical version of the album includes ten tuning forks, each set to the frequency of a song on the record.
What to buy…? From games to apps and more, Jason Richards in The Atlantic writes that bonus content influences buying decisions. The key, he writes, is often exclusivity more than the content itself. Extravagance is also important as purchasers seeking these extras are not just hard-core fans, they are collectors as well.
In my opinion, giving fans special, limited edition content that can be experienced in both the tactile and virtual worlds will prove to be the most successful mix for marketing specialty music products. Look for our Download for Good deluxe box set with lots of cool bonuses to hit shelves in the coming months. We’ll have extras like the Alive Drive — a customized interface for USB and flash memory devices that creates an exclusive space or “channel” for direct-to-fan interaction, including songs, concerts, videos and more.
Tom Waits Teams Up with David Lynch. Wait What?!
This is in fact very true. The haunting masters of music and film are helping to make change in the world through The David Lynch Foundation’s (DLF) promotion of their Transcendental Meditation (TM) program for different groups of people. DLF’s TM program helps veterans with PTSD, homeless, prisoners, kids struggling in school, American Indians, and children growing up in violent environments. Tom Waits has contributed his song “Briar and the Rose” to The David Lynch Foundation Music (DLFM). DLFM acts as a record label, and has received new, unreleased, or remixed tracks from 34 star-studded artists (including Tom Waits) that want to “Download For Good”. Wait, so this is only available on iTunes? Wouldn’t it be better if this were released on vinyl? Yes, that is why The David Lynch Foundation Music has partnered with Altavoz Distribution to produce not just the album on vinyl, but an entire DELUXE BOX SET!
Inside this exclusive and VERY LIMITED EDITION box set (1,000 in the USA) will be:
* (4) 180 Gram Vinyl Discs with 33 tracks from different artists (including Tom Waits)
* Unique art by Romio Shrestha and the artists (Romio’s art is featured in prestigious museums)
* An AliveDrive with a bonus track (gives you premier content from the artists on your computer)
* David Lynch wooden sticker
Contact your local record store, and tell them you want the David Lynch: Download for Good, Music that Changes the World Box Set from Altavoz Distribution.
A large portion of the sales made from this box set benefit two different charities. The DLFM’s portion of the sales benefits the DLF. Altavoz Distribution gives a percentage of its revenue to their majority shareholder, the Help Earth Foundation.

In September, Latin rockers OZOMATLI’s new single “Monster” hits the Top 10 (#10) position at radio on the Adult Contemporary Top 200 chart. The vibrant track–which shares the Top Ten with Adele, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Bruno Mars–is exclusively available now on the recently released star-studded premiere compilation CD from the David Lynch Foundation, DOWNLOAD FOR GOOD: Music That Changes The World.
“Monster” producer Tony Berg (Aimee Mann, Pete Yorn) said, ”That Ozomatli should see radio success with ‘Monster’–a reflective song with a groove–under the aegis of the David Lynch Foundation–a reflective organization with a groove–is a wonderful thing. And makes perfect sense.”
All artists and label proceeds from DOWNLOAD FOR GOOD support the David Lynch Foundation. The David Lynch Foundation was launched six years ago to bring the stress-reducing, health-promoting benefits ofTranscendental Meditation® to underserved populations, including at-risk inner-city youth and U.S. veterans returning home from combat with post traumatic stress disorder, as well as Native Americans, the homeless and prisoners. To date, the David Lynch Foundation has provided scholarships for nearly 150,000 adults and youth to learn to meditate, eliminating the traumatic stress that undermines academic achievement and fuels substance abuse and violent behavior. Independent published scientific research shows that meditating individuals have better overall mental health and students have dramatically better test scores, grades and graduation rates, while dropout rates, suspensions, and expulsions greatly decrease.
